About Us

The Ecumenical Coalition for Justice (ECJ) was formed in Auckland in 1999. Members are from the mainline denominations active on social justice issues, both nationally and internationally.

Our latest project is a four session group study guide “The Current Economic Crisis under the Spotlight of Faith” which explores the dynamics of affluence and poverty.

ECJ’s initial focus was to promote ‘fair trade’ policies as the alternative to the ‘free trade’ message being promoted at the APEC meeting in Auckland in 1999.

In 2004 we produced resource material on the “Church and the Treaty” which we have now up-dated. One part of that material was on the Foreshore and Seabed issue because legislation was being debated in the Parliament at that time. The issues surrounding the ownership of the foreshore and seabed are once again being debated in 2009 and we have therefore amended the material to include those articles which still provide insights today.

We also produced resource material to encourage discussion on the major issues featuring in the General Election of 2005. Some of those issues re-appear at every election and we have therefore also amended that material for current reflection.
